NFL Week 3 – Controversial

By | September 25, 2017

The NFL Week 3 game kicked off with the Los Angeles Rams and the San Franciso 49ers but the week wasn’t without a bit of controversy when President Trump made a rather flippant remark at his political rally.

The Rams won the game 41-39 but watching the game, you can’t help but get the feeling that they were lucky to have won. The Rams almost threw it away in the last quarter with the 49ers scoring almost all of what they scored in the first three together. That said, it was an awesome game from both sides.

National Anthem Controversy.

Before we get into the rest of the games, the big news this week plaguing the NFL is the response to President Trump’s comments while speaking at a political rally in Huntsville, Alabama. He was quoted as saying:

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out, he’s fired. He’s fired!’ You know some owner is going to do that. He’s going to say, ‘That guy disrespects our flag; he’s fired.’ And that owner, they don’t know it. They’re friends of mine, many of them. They’ll be the most popular person, for a week. They’ll be the most popular person in this country.”

His comment certainly did spark a lot of reaction from all the NFL teams and the fans alike with many of the teams showing their unity by linking arms, and/or kneeling, including their team managers. This all dominated the news over the week-end.

President Trump In Huntsville Alabama

That’s a real tough one and I am sure there are very strong views on both sides. I totally get what the President is saying … well in sentiment. I do think that it shows one’s allegiance, loyalty, support, love, for their country by respecting the National Anthem. I learned that as a kid and I would stand for the National Anthem very willingly and proudly.

However, the words used by President Trump at his rally, I don’t think solicited that kind of response he was after. Perhaps that kind of statement is probably par for the course for him. President Trump does tend to speak without thinking sometimes – no disrespect intended.

How about you – where do you stand with his statement?

How Did The Other NFL Teams Do?

So, how did all the rest of the teams do and where are they at so far?

The Ravens were very disappointing on the day with the Jaguars beating them rather soundly, 44-7. There are not a lot of happy Ravens fans today but was it just a one-off ‘bad hair day’ and they’ll stage a come back next week or is that them for the tournament? Crisis point for the offense? Time will tell.

There was a lot of talk about the Buffalo Bills taking but it seems that was a load of the proverbial. Their defense came to play and they ended up with a comfortable win, 26-16.

While the New York Jets possibly don’t look like an AFC Title team, they also didn’t look like the same team in the first couple of weeks of the season.

The Eagles-Giants game was a little topsy-turvy but Jake Elliott, the Philadelphia Eagles rookie kicker must have the biggest smile on his dial after his incredible field goal as the time expired. It was easily one of the greatest field goals seen in NFL history, with a 61-yarder as the time expired, to win the game.

Division Top Standings

Who do have that have three from three wins so far? Last week, there were eight teams with 100% and two from two wins each.

This week, both the AFC-North teams who had two wins, lost their third game.

In the AFC-West division, Kansas City Chiefs have come through with three wins together with the Raiders.

In the NFC competition, it’s just the Atlanta Falcons who go through unblemished with three wins under their belt.
